Elizabeth Oyer worked for the United States Department of Justice as a pardon attorney.
She says that she was fired in an illegal way last year.
Oyer filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the department and Todd Blanche.
She refused to recommend restoring gun rights to the actor Mel Gibson.
The lawsuit says that she was asked to do a political favor for the actor.
This favor was linked to his relationship with President Donald Trump.
The former lawyer thinks that her firing was unfair and against the law.
The case is now before a court in the district of Columbia.
